The New American Dream…
I recently asked my followers on Twitter and Instagram what is the American Dream now because it was to be married, own a house with a white picket fence, and have two kids. Nowadays, people are parents to plants.
Most followers on Twitter said owning your business, financial freedom, being debt-free, and living life on your own terms.
One follower on Instagram said that it depends on which America you live in. That’s a whole topic for another day.
Here’s the thing. Entrepreneurship isn’t for everyone; some people actually enjoy their 9 to 5. But with only a 9 to 5 in today’s economy, financial freedom isn’t attainable; most Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. So, people have adapted to having “side hustles.”
Being debt-free is definitely a dream for the millions of Americans drowning in student debt, me included. And lastly, is being a business owner the only way to live life on your own terms? Or can you achieve that while working in the corporate world? I think you can if your job is flexible.
From my observation, it seems like people are shifting what they want out of life. House ownership isn’t on the top of the list; traveling is. People want to explore the beauty of this world. They are collecting experiences instead of things.
